February 17, 2017 – I met with Ray Kristosik the Executive Director of Little Italy Redevelopment Corp. this morning, and he shared lots of great info regarding what’s happening in Cleveland’s Little Italy neighborhood. A few basic facts/demographics for those considering this neighborhood, which is conveniently located alongside University Circle (walkable!) and has an RTA light rail stop connecting it to downtown Cleveland and the airport:
- The boundaries of Little Italy are Euclid Avenue to the north, Cedar Road to the south, the suburb of Cleveland Heights to the east, and the railroad/Rapid tracks to the west.
- 2,000 residents; 500 homes in ½ a square mile – very dense and walkable.
- 60 businesses (40 shops/galleries and 15 restaurants).
- Events include The Feast of the Assumption in August, art walk the first weekends in June and December, Bocce tournament at Alta House in July, etc.
- 75% of the properties are occupied by renters; and though many are students, they tend to be graduate students or residents/fellows of hospitals, so they are high-end renters.
Interesting new developments headed their way:
- Quattro: 2044 Random Road at Tony Brush Park, 1 building, 5 stories, 26 condos from 2100-3000 SF with on site parking; construction begins in August 2017.
- Centric: 11601 Mayfield Road, formerly known as Intesa, the plans now call for one 7-story building with 272 apartments and 27,000 SF office space/retail on lower floors with 360 space parking garage.
