Our Favorite Place to Gather: Clifton Beach

by | Nov 19, 2019 | Public Spaces, Parks & Recreation

Each Executive Arrangements staff member holds different Northeast Ohio places near and dear, but if there is one place that our company loves, it’s Clifton Beach. Each fall, we gather there with our significant others to watch the sun set over the water. Drinking wine and eating at long picnic tables together just steps from Lake Erie, we learn more about one another as most of our work is done remotely and this is our chance to socialize and feel like a team.
Executive Arrangements returns to Clifton Beach year after year because it’s so close to the city (on the border of Lakewood and Rocky River), but it always feels like a beach resort, which is how it got its start. The Clifton Park Association first began development of Clifton Park in 1869 as a public lakefront resort. Visitors in the late 19th century would come to picnic, swim, and rent sail and row boats. At the turn of the century, Clifton Park Association continued to develop the land into a housing development with the beach set aside for use by those homeowners and the members of an accompanying social club, the Clifton Club. The lands of Clifton Park were eventually put into a trust for lot owners and are now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

This year, our night at Clifton Beach was extra special as it was our birthday party! We began the evening with hors d’oeuvres on the wrap-around veranda listening to all the hits from 1979. Then we headed into the Beach House for a short program. Brad Withers was the Master of Ceremonies for the evening and shared some history of EA and Cleveland. Caroline Merk shared her experiences guiding in the early days when candidates were taken around in limousines to today. And President Margy Judd talked about the future of the company. At the end of the night, we had a champagne toast and blew out 40 candles while the moonlight reflected on the waves outside.
