When Executive Arrangements asked me to think of my favorite place in Cleveland as part of their 40th anniversary celebration, I immediately thought of being out on a boat on Lake Erie.
As a transplant myself from Atlanta, I really appreciate Cleveland being on one of the Great Lakes, which offers boaters a wonderful opportunity to see the city from out on the lake and river. Seeing the city skyline from Lake Erie really gives you perspective. My whole family enjoys boating, and in the 40 years since Executive Arrangements was incorporated, the waterways have seen tremendous progress. They’re flourishing again with fishing and water sports.
I love the fact that the Cuyahoga is a working river. And it took some getting used to boating on this shallow lake. Since Cleveland has no inter-coastal waterway, if a storm pops up, you better head for land as the lake gets choppy and challenging quickly.
Here I am spending an afternoon with my kids and their friends motoring under dozens of bridges and through the vibrant Flats neighborhood in downtown filled with restaurants and bars where we can dock and enjoy a snack.

The Lake is an amazing place to watch city events, like this past summer’s Tall Ships parade when they sailed into Cleveland’s harbor…

It’s great to be able to host friends for Cleveland’s annual Labor Day weekend airshow downtown and watch the Blue Angels or the Thunderbirds race by overhead.

When I took my family out on Lake Erie for the 4th of July, we saw fireworks from dozens of towns – from Avon on the far west side to Mentor on the east side. It was a beautiful night to be out on the water.

I really enjoy seeing Cleveland’s skyline from the Lake. It gives you a feel for our city. That’s FirstEnergy Stadium (where the Cleveland Browns play) in the foreground.

This truly is a working river with 600-800′ ships navigating the same river as my power boat.

There are spectacular sunsets on Lake Erie.

A view from Shoreby Club in Bratenahl – Cleveland has so many great public and private marinas, many with reciprocity to other boat clubs.

Not a bad view of my adopted city…
