Updated December 2016 – Until recently, there were not many living options for professionals who wanted to live close to University Circle, Cleveland’s cultural center. With the growth of the hospitals & university, combined with a 96% occupancy rate in downtown Cleveland, developers began eyeballing this area about 10 years ago and now there are many choices for those who want to rent or buy in the district. And, when the Maron family jumped in to develop several city blocks into a mix of retail and residential buildings, this neighborhood just took off. And it didn’t hurt that the city has just invested almost $200M into the Euclid Corridor project, re-developing a main thoroughfare that connects downtown to University Circle that included a state of the art bus/rapid transit connector along the corridor. And when you think about it, its LONG overdue, as this is cultural epi-center of NE Ohio. How cool would it be to be able to walk to a Cleveland Orchestra Concert or a day at the art museum? But good options didn’t exist until a few years ago.
Just 3 miles due east of downtown Cleveland, University Circle is the 2nd largest business district in the city and is anchored by the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, Case Western Reserve University as well as many arts institutions including Severance Hall (Cleveland Orchestra’s winter concert hall), MOCA (the museum of contemporary art), Cleveland Botanical Garden, and the Cleveland Museum of Art.
University Circle Inc., the non-profit that links all the players (museums, hospitals, residential real estate) in this district, as well as providing a dedicated police & safety force, provides a great list of places you can rent or buy in the University Circle area. And with the Case Western Reserve University bookstore combined with a Barnes & Noble and Constantino’s upscale fresh food market, there are lots of shopping choices.
